The Churn Community Hub is joining organisations around the world in celebrating International Day of Play recognising the important role that play has in every child’s development and wellbeing.
This year’s theme, “Protect Play, Protect Childhood”, highlights the need to ensure that all children have opportunities to play, explore and learn in safe, supportive environments.
As part of the Family Hub network, we are proud to support Gloucestershire’s Play Strategy. Play is a vital part of childhood that helps children develop physically, emotionally and socially. Children build confidence, communication skills, creativity, resilience and friendships, while developing the foundations they need for lifelong learning.
Play is at the heart of our Family Service activities. Through our Mum and Baby, Mini Toddlers and Families Matter groups, we provide welcoming and engaging spaces where young children can learn, explore and grow through play before they attend primary school.
Today we celebrated International Day of Play in our two Families Matter groups running at The Churn Community Hub with lots of fun activities. To mark the day, we gave each family an activity pack to take away encourage play opportunities at home and help keep play at the heart of family life.
Rachel Stainton, Family Service Coordinator, said:
“Our play sessions offer children opportunities to discover new experiences, develop social and emotional skills, and build confidence. They also provide parents and carers with opportunities to connect with one another, share experiences and build support networks. By encouraging play from the earliest years, we help give children the best possible start in life while supporting families across the community.”
